Polperro Cornwall

Polperro Cornwall is a picturesque harbour village nestling in a small gap between the cliffs. The narrow winding streets of Polperro are edged with old stone cottages and the rows seem to branch out from the harbour in all directions. Polperro Cornwall has housed a fishing community for around seven hundred years and there is still fishing from the village today. View Polperro Cornwall Photo Gallery.

In the centre or Polperro is the quay once packed with pilchard luggers and harbour. The sea laps against the side of the harbour houses and it is amazing that they have lasted this way for so long. Polperro Cornwall has good facilities with lots of pubs, cafes, gift shops, galleries, a sweet shop and small general store. There are public toilets on the road from the car park to the village.

Due to its picture perfect image Polperro is popular with artists and generations of artists have painted Polperro. Local artists work can be viewed in the many galleries.

The local Polperro museum is great for discovering some history about the village and tales of smuggling and the past fishing industry.

Polperro Cornwall has plenty of paid for parking in the car park at the top of the village (don't be one of the many who, feeling sure they will find parking in the village, struggle through the narrow busy streets only to be met with the difficulty of turning round to return to the car park). From the car park you follow the road edged by a stream into the centre of the village - about a 10 or 15 minute walk. Or, when it is operating there is the option of taking the quaint bus or horse and cart into the centre (or back up the hill on your return!).

The coast path is easily accessible from Polperro (although via a steep climb) and there are spectacular views if you take the path west towards Lansallos and Polruan.

From Polperro you can head to the bustling town of Looe Cornwall or slightly further to pretty Fowey, the shopping centre of St Austell or antique haven of Lostwithiel Cornwall.
