Newlyn Fish Festival Cornwall

Newlyn Fish Festival Cornwall

Fishing Boat Newlyn Harbour Cornwall

Newlyn Fish Festival Cornwall is held every year on August Bank Holiday Monday and is an excellent day out.

Newlyn Fish Festival, launched in 1991 by Len Scott with the aim of promoting the fishing industry and Newlyn’s importance to it and to boost the image and work of the Newlyn Mission. The festival continues today with the hard work and dedication of the organisers and volunteers. With a trade fare, craft fair, full program of entertainment, lots of fish to sample and huge fish display the event is one not to be missed. Len Scott wrote in the 1996 program that the Festival’s aim is to allow “fishermen of Newlyn an opportunity to show its industry off to the wider public who, perhaps, know little about commercial fishing or its problems.” and it does this with great success.

The Newlyn Fisherman’s Mission is still very active and is based in a large building in the centre of the village, the Mission is open to all and offers a café, a Fisherman’s Memorial room and internet. The aim of the Mission is to provide care compassion and support to working retired and disabled fishermen and their families.
