Swim, play or relax by the side of this outdoor life guarded Pool

We are pleased to say that following a major restoration project the Jubilee Pool will reopen to the public for the summer season on Saturday 28th May 2016 - Enjoy!

The Jubilee Pool in Penzance Cornwall is one of the few remaining and most iconic lidos in the UK. Designed in the 1930s by Captain F Latham, the then Borough Engineer it was opened to the public in 1935 when Penzance enjoyed a reputation as a fashionable seaside resort. In its heyday it was a much loved and used public resource with its high diving boards and glorious views over Mounts Bay. Until 2014 the Jubilee Pool has always been a favourite with visitors and locals looking for things to do in Cornwall.

Jubilee Pool Penzance CornwallSituated on the Promenade on Penzance front the wonderful art deco architecture and design of the Jubilee Pool provides a real landmark both for the town and for Cornwall. Jubilee Pool is one of the few saltwater, tidal open air swimming pools in the world and considered a jewel in the town’s crown. The grade II Listed pool is triangular with graceful curves and is considered one of the best surviving examples of its type. It was built upon a traditional bathing spot at Battery Rocks near the Penzance harbour and designed to withstand the battering of the ferocious Cornish storms and tides. Ever popular with families, people could spend a whole day there swimming, paddling, picnicking and generally having fun. There were also swimming and diving competitions before the diving boards and slide were removed for health and safety reasons.

Sadly the jubilee pool was very badly damaged by the severe winter storms and the outer wall of the structure was damaged. It was feared the Pool was beyond economic repair. The Friends of the Jubilee Pool have been and continue to do all they can to save the pool and to keep it running. They have begun a Save Our Lido campaign to raise badly needed funds. Thankfully the hard work of all those involved with the Jubilee Pool has paid off and the pool is re-opening on Saturday 28 May 2016. It is a beautiful pool and an excellent place in Cornwall to visit and so we are really pleased it will be opening again.

The Friends of Jubilee Pool, formed by the late John Clark who worked tirelessly to preserve its future, are now trying to raise £160,000 to contribute to the longer term future of the Pool, which is now run by Tempus Leisure, to preserve it for the use and enjoyment of both townspeople and people who visit Cornwall. As a result of campaigning by The Friends and local councillors a   major grant from Coastal Communities Fund was awarded to Jubilee Pool in August 2014. So the future for the pool is looking bright.  You can help them by visiting their website and pledging your support at WWW.Jubileepool.co.uk or by donating or organising a fund raising event. Please Help Save the Jubilee Pool. Together we can make a difference!
