Cornwall

Dog Friendly Places to eat Cornwall the Jamaica Inn

The famous Jamaica Inn, which is open all year round, is found high up on the wild and beautiful Bodmin Moor and is a very dog friendly place to eat in Cornwall. You can combine a stop off here with a great dog walk in Cornwall up to Brown Willey, Cornwall's highest point, some 2 ½ miles across Bodmin Moor (the route is available from the Inn and take advice on the weather before setting off).

At the Jamaica Inn you can enjoy a delicious bar meal in one of the ‘olde worlde’ bars with great local ales and wines to wash it down or simply a light bite or scrumptious cream tea! Food is served between 7.30am and 9.00pm with changes in menu throughout the day. Doggie visitors are welcomed with a dog treat from the bar.

The Inn also has a fascinating Smugglers’ Museum where tales of wreckers, murderers and villains are brought wonderfully to life (dogs are allowed to walk through the museum) and a Daphne du Maurier memorial room.

PIRANS INN

Holywell Bay, Newquay

Cornwall

Henry Dog who holidays in Cornwall

And with thanks to Henry the Shar-pei for sending in his two recommendations in the Newquay area which he found on his holidays in Cornwall, hopefully he will sniff some more out this year!

Holywell Bay is dog friendly all year. Just 5 miles from Newquay the Pirans is now under new management with a renowned chef offering great food and real ales.

Varied menu with traditional pub food, daily specials and vegetarian options.  Fabulous views, friendly atmosphere and outside terrace.

Very dog friendly pub both inside and out.

THE DOLPHIN TAVERN Penzance Cornwall

Penzance Cornwall

Fitting with it's harbour location the Dolphin Tavern in Penzance Cornwall is filled with shipping artifacts of all descriptions. The old dark wood beams complete the historic atmosphere and there are plenty of cosy corners to settle in for a meal, snack, drink or coffee. This is an excellent place to eat or drink in Cornwall. The friendly staff give excellent service and go out of their way to make you feel at home. The Dolphin Tavern is very dog friendly and dogs on leads are allowed in all main areas. Filled with history the Dolphin Tavern Penzance was used by John Hawkins back in 1585 as his headquarters when recruiting Cornishmen to fight in the Armada and in the following centauries as a courtroom. It is also reported as being one of the most haunted pubs in Cornwall with three resident spirits. The menu which uses local produce is excellent with a wide variety of choice including all the usual pub favourites and more. There is a particularly good vegetarian selection. Choices range from steaks and pies to roast dinners, locally caught fish and smaller options such as sandwiches and baked potatoes. Amongst our favourites are the mushroom sizzler, steak and trio of Cornish fish. Food is served all day from 11am to 10pm. The Dolphin Tavern is situated on the corner just opposite the Scillonian docking point.

POLPEOR CAFE

Lizard, Cornwall

Lizard Point Cafe Cornwall

Found at Britain's most southerly point, just outside Lizard Cornwall on the Cornish coast path above the old Lizard Lifeboat Station this cafe is a must, particularly on a sunny day. There is seating inside but it is the outside seating area that is the place to sit as the views over the cliffs and out to sea are breathtaking. This is an excellent place to eat in Cornwall with or without a dog. The Polpeor Cafe is very dog friendly and dogs are allowed inside and out but please note that due to the steep cliffs it is essential that dogs are kept on a lead whilst visiting and walking in this area. The walking is exceptional and this cafe is a good stop off point.
The menu is good and reasonable with snacks such as sandwiches and baked potatoes, Cornish cream teas and full meals including daily specials where there is usually fresh fish. The puddings and cakes come particularly recommended. In the summer season you can take your own wine in the early evening and enjoy a meal. Out of the main season the cafe is open weekends and then not at all. Note the cafe does not have toilets the nearest are at the National Trust Car Park.

Polpeor Cafe, Lizard Point, Lizard, Hayle Cornwall.

THE LOFT St Ives Cornwall

Again thanks to Bella for this suggestion.

Set in the centre of St Ives Cornwall above the Sloop Craft Market you can visit The Loft for a coffee, a glass of chilled wine or meal. Open from 12 for lunch and 6 for dinner. Bella says "Dog friendly owner, fab terrace to sit outside and enjoy a crayfish sandwich, always happy to supply a bowl of water and a stroke of the ears!". The inside area is not dog friendly but the Terrace area with beautiful views is dog friendly.

The Fort Inn

Newquay

Cornwall

Henry Dog who holidays in Cornwall

And for Henry's second recommendation:

The Fort Inn is set  in the centre of Newquay with great sea views from the outside garden.  This is a very family friendly pub which serves food daily from midday using local fresh produce whenever possible.   Steaks and grills are always cooked to order and all dishes are home made.  There is also a specially created childrens menu.  The Fort has a large garden with both an indoor and outdoor play area overlooking Newquay Bay and Harbour.

The Fort Inn is a Dog friendly pub allowing dogs in all areas, except the play areas, as long as they are on a lead.  Most of the beaches in Newquay are dog friendly all year so it can be a great place to visit with a dog, particularly out of the school holiday times when it can get very busy.

The bar is open: Monday- Saturday 11.am– 11pm
Sunday  12.00 noon – 10.30pm
Food is served from 12pm – 8pm everyday.
Please call 01637 875700 to make a booking or for more info.

THE GODOLPHIN ARMS Marazion, Cornwall

Marazion Cornwall

Situated in the centre of Marazion Cornwall the dog friendly Godolphin Arms commands excellent views over the sea and causeway to St. Michael's Mount with Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole in the distance - one of the best views in Cornwall. There is a choice of bars and places to sit depending on your mood, The Godolphin lounge has a wall of windows so you can enjoy the view, or the beach terrace is so close to the sea you can even get splashed at high tide, or choose The Gallery lounge with Patio facing out onto Marazion's historic high street and where local artists display their works.

The Godolphin has direct access to Marazion beach, an excellent place for a walk (please note seasonal dog restrictions apply to the beach when dogs have to wait until 7pm to be allowed on).
The food is good and reasonable priced with a varied menu that changes throughout the day. I would recommend the sunday calvery where you have a choice of meat (even a tip bit for the dog) or nut roast and help yourself from the wide selection of vegetables. A great dog friendly pub in Marazion Cornwall. Open every day of the year from 8a.m. serving full English breakfast, a range of teas and coffees through to lunch afternoon tea and dinner.

The Godolphin Arms, West End, Marazion, Cornwall, Tel: 01736 710202 www.godolphinarms.co.uk

THE KINGS ARMS INN PAUL, Mousehole Cornwall

The Kings Arms in Paul Cornwall is a very friendly pub with good food and a real local pub atmosphere. Dog friendly, dogs are made welcome in the bar to the side. The menu offers a variety of dishes which should suit all tastes although I would particularly recommend the sunday lunch which offers a choice of meat or nut roast and a generous portions of vegetables served in dishes for the table so you can help yourself. The Kings Arms offers a particularly good variety of local ales to accompany your meal.
The village of Paul is a quaint little village with a beautiful church just above Mousehole Cornwall. There is a nice (although quite steep) footpath which starts just after the church and leads down to the coast and comes out to the east of Mousehole where you can walk on the pavement into the village. Go through the village and follow the road to Paul back to the pub.

The Wateringhole Perranporth, Cornwall

Watering Hole Perranporth Cornwall

Set on Perranporth beach Cornwall, and I mean literally on the beach you have to walk across sand, it is the location that really sells this place making The Watering Hole in Perranporth a firm favourite with all dogs and probably in their opinion the best dog friendly pub in Cornwall. The surf and beach theme carries throughout the pub and the atmosphere is very casual with people in wetsuits and dogs and children sandy from the beach. To accommodate this the inside is basic with bare (sandy) floors and plastic picnic tables dominated by the views through the large windows directly onto Perranporth Beach. The pub is very dog friendly and dogs are allowed in all the bar and dining area or can sit outside on the terrace or on the tables on the beach.
There is a good choice of basic food on the menu with burgers, baked potatoes, fish and chips, lasagne, various meat dishes and a mexican selection. There are vegetarian choices. The specials are more adventurous often with good fresh fish options. Sunday offers a Sunday Dinner calvery and in the summer there is a bbq a couple of nights a week. There is also a cafe side to the bar serving hot drinks and cake. The food is reasonably priced for the location although drinks are expensive.
