Cadgwith Cove, Lizard Peninsula

Cadgwith Cove on the Lizard Peninsula is a picture box village. Pretty cottages line the narrow streets. There is still fishing from Cadgwith and so fishing boats can be seen resting on the beaches or entering and leaving the harbour. Cadgwith has two small beaches. It is not really a place to visit for a day on the beach but is a nice village to visit with the option of spending some time on a small shingle beach. There is parking on the outskirts of Cadgwith from which you walk down a beautiful footpath to the village. Cadgwith has places to get food and drink and a couple of shops although opening is likely to be seasonal. There is a warning in place that swimming from Cadgwith is with care. Cadgwith East is a dog friendly beach and dogs are allowed all year. Watch Video of Cadgwith Cove Cornwall

The Lizard Peninsula Cornwall

Kennack Sands, situated on the Lizard Peninsula, is two lovely sheltered sandy Cornish coves with impressive rocks to explore. Split into Kennack Sands East (the furthest away) and Kennack Sands West. There is paid for parking near the beach and a cafe and toilets in season. The drive can be difficult at busy times with lots of reversing and maneuvering for vehicles to pass each other on the single track road. Lifeguarded in the summer season. Praa Sands

Kenneggy Sands is quite an adventurous Cornwall beach to visit. There are two ways to access the beach - one is to walk along the beach from Praa Sands at low tide, the other to take the cliff top footpath and climb the chained ladder down to the beach. There is a risk of being cut off at Kenneggy beach by the incoming tide as the beach completely disappears at high tide so make sure you know the tide times and are alert to the risks. Once there the beach is sandy and dog friendly (although obviously the ladder is not).

Lizard, Lizard Peninsula Cornwall

Polpeor Cove is a small sand, shale and rock beach with lots of rocks and rock pools to explore. The beach is at Lizard Point by Lizard village and is accessed by walking down a very steep road / path, which seems even steeper on the climb back. Some boats are stored on the slipway down. Polpeor is best visited at mid to low tide when more of the beach and rocks are accessible, although there is usually a small beach to sit on at high tide. The old Lizard Lifeboat Station is just to the side of Polpeor Cove. Polpeor does not have the beautiful golden sands of many of the Cornish beaches but does have beautiful views, it is not really a beach to visit for a day on the beach, but is a nice stop off as part of an excellent day at Lizard on the Lizard Peninsula Cornwall and walk on the Coast Path with stunning views (although beware of adders and please keep dogs on leads by these steep cliffs, dogs die every year by falling off). Polpeor is unsuitable for swimming. Above Polpeor beach is the fantastic dog friendly Polpeor Cafe, excellent for coffee and cake, cream teas, lunches and in high season dinner (seasonal opening times). There are no toilets at the cafe or beach, toilets are at the large National Trust car park. Polpeor Cove is a dog friendly beach in Cornwall and allows dogs all year. There is a small National Trust car park near the beach and a larger one a short steep walk away. For a longer walk park in Lizard village.

Porthleven, Helston, Cornwall

Porthleven beach in west Cornwall is a mixture of sand and shale backed by cliffs and the sea wall. Strong undercurrents make bathing particularly hazardous here. Parking is in the centre of the village as are facilities. Porthleven is more a place to visit for the picturesque Cornish harbour village atmosphere with the different shops, galleries, pubs and cafes rather than the beach, but if you are there it is worth a visit. DOG BAN Easter Day until 1st October 7am-7pm in operation from the Harbour Wall to the Blue Buoy steps. On the rest of the beach there are no restrictions. Please check signs carefully to make sure where you are is dog friendly. Lifeguarded over the summer season.
