Dog friendly beaches all year North Cornwall

North Cornwall is a good area for dog friendly beaches, in fact it probably has the best dog friendly beaches in Cornwall. Dog friendly beaches in North Cornwall are listed below alphabetically.

Most Newquay beaches, including the famous Fistral beach, are dog friendly beaches as is Crantock. Perranporth (dogs on leads July & August) and Perran Sands provide miles of dog friendly golden sands. Between Padstow and Newquay lies the large sandy beach of Watergate Bay and many stunning smaller beaches which allow dogs such as Constantine Bay and Porthcothan Bay.

Estuary beaches of Rock and Daymer Bay opposite Padstow are dog friendly.

Bude Summerleaze beach allows dogs (leads in summer) and the south side of Widemouth Bay & Sandymouth beach (difficult access) allow dogs all year.

Please clean up after your dog, don't get them banned from more beaches!

Near Constantine, Cornwall

Booby's Bay is a large, sandy beach in North Cornwall. Access and surfing are not possible for about 2 hours either side of high water, as the beach is submerged. At low tide the beach connects with Constantine Bay. There is no parking at Boobys Bay. The nearest car parks are at Treyarnon Bay or Constantine Bay and you can then walk along the coast path to Boobys Bay. Access is not easy, with a short climb down rocks, and a 500m walk from the nearest car park. The nearest facilities are at Constantine, half a mile to the south. Dog friendly. RNLI Lifeguarded from May to September. Surfing is not recommended here for beginners.

Padstow Cornwall

Constantine Bay Beach in North Cornwall is a beautiful spot with long curve of golden sands, rock pools and is very popular with surfers. Constantine Bay lies about 3 miles out of Padstow in the direction of Newquay and is lifeguarded in the summer months. There are toilets (unsure of seasonal and daily opening times) and a shop in Constantine Bay village itself. Constantine Bay is a dog friendly beach in Cornwall all year and there are no seasonal dog restrictions. If you fancy a walk you can access the Coast Path. There is some parking at Constantine although not very much, an alternative is to park at Treyarnon Bay and walk along the Coast Path to Constantine Beach about a 10 to 15 minute walk (although the car park here can get full on busy days).

Newquay Cornwall

A beautiful large sandy beach in North Cornwall which is popular with beachgoers, families, surfers and bodyboarders. At low tide there are plenty of rock pools filled with life to investigate. Facilities are good with toilets, cafes and hire facilities and two car parks. Access to the beach is through steep dunes and can be difficult particularly for push chairs. A dog friendly beach all year. Crantock beach is lifeguarded in the summer season

Padstow Cornwall

Daymer Bay Beach is a long stretch of sand at the head of the Camel Estuary at Rock and opposite Padstow. The beach slopes gently to the sea and is a dog friendly beach all year. The Estuary is tidal and so you need to visit here at a reasonably low tide. Sand dunes back the beach and it is usually a little quieter here than nearby Rock and Polzeath. There is a beach shop. If you climb the hill behind the beach the views are fantastic and you come to St Enodoc Church where the poet John Betjeman is buried. The Doom Bar is a large sand bank to the side of Daymer Bay and is a notorious hazard to shipping. The story goes that Padstow was guarded by a mermaid until she was mortally wounded by a young man and after which cursed the place with the sand bar.

Newquay Cornwall

Fistral Beach Newquay, the most famous Beach in Cornwall. An immense stretch of golden Cornish sands pounded by the famous Fistral break. Fistral beach is popular with surfers, beachgoers, families and dogs as this North Cornwall beach is dog friendly all year. International surfing events are regularly held here including Boardmasters, the Quicksilver Skins, the UK Pro Surf Tour and the BUSA Championships. One of the Newquay town beaches situated between Towan and Tolcarne beaches in North Cornwall. A sheltered sandy beach backed by cliffs popular with families and learner surfers due to the smaller surf. Mostly covered at high tide. Cornish cliffs make Great Western beach shady in the morning. A small sandy beach known as a sun trap in the centre of Newquay. This is a working harbour and boats are arriving with their daily catch so the beach can be slightly littered with the unwanted fish. Maybe better to explore than to sit. A dog friendly beach all year. Watch out for the Newquay Fish Festival held here every year. Padstow Cornwall

Harbour Cove Padstow (also known as Tregirls) at low tide is a beautiful golden sandy beach of a mile + at the mouth of the Camel estuary. A dog friendly beach in Cornwall all year. You can walk from Padstow on the coast path, about a mile, or park at Lelizzick Farm near the beach. You can enjoy a cream tea at The Rest A While Tea Garden. Opposite is Daymer Bay - where the notorious Doom Bar forms when the tide is in and which has been a hazard to shipping for centuries and now has a local ale named after it. The small neighbouring beach of Hawker's Cove, which is where the old lifeboat station was and which only exists at low tide is connected at low tide and is also dog friendly. Padstow Cornwall

Harlyn Bay Beach is a golden sandy beach with pebbles near to Padstow in North Cornwall. There are rock pools and sand dunes to explore and for those who enjoy walking walks to Mother Ivey's Bay and Trevose head where the views are spectacular - ideal Cornwall walks with dogs and the beach here is dog friendly all year. Harlyn is a favourite family beach and also popular with learner surfers practising or attending one of the many surf schools (when the waves are big all levels of surfers come) and kayakers. Little Fistral is a small sand and rock beach backed by steep cliffs just to the north of the famous Fistral beach in Newquay Cornwall Little Fistral is only accessible at low tide. There are facilities including toilets, showers, cafe, and parking (although parking is expensive) at nearby Fistral beach which is about a ten minute walk away. Little Fistral is not lifeguarded, nearby Fistral beach is. Little Fistral is a dog friendly beach and dogs are allowed all year.

Mawgan Porth is a beautiful West facing large golden sand beach backed by grassy dunes and cliffs and with rock pools to explore. The perfect setting for a day on the beach in Cornwall. Mawgan Porth is situated between Newquay and Padstow . Popular with surfers, beach goers and dogs. The facilities in the village of Mawgan Porth are good with plenty of places for food and drinks and the beach is lifeguarded in the summer season. Mawgan Porth is a dog friendly beach in Cornwall all year.

Northcott Mouth Beach is a rocky cove near to Bude and when the tide is out is a sandy beach with stream and rock pools. A National Trust beach there is a small car park and cafe in summer but no toilet facilities. Look out for the wreck of SS Belem which is revealed at low tide. Lifeguarded in Summer. Perranporth Cornwall

Perran Sands Cornwall is a continuation from the golden Cornish sands of Perranporth and the main beach for the large Haven caravan site on top of the cliffs (a steep walk up). Golden sands are backed by steep Cornish cliffs. The beach is popular with families, surfers and beach goers. Perranporth Cornwall

Perranporth is an amazing three mile long stretch of golden Cornish sand fringed by sand dunes and enjoyed by families, beach goers and very popular with surfers. There are lots of benches overlooking the beach for those who wish to sit and take in the scenery. The Perranporth sea can be unpredictable with very strong currents, speak to the lifeguards before entering. Excellent facilities. Lifeguarded over the summer season. There is a small dog friendly beach at Port Isaac harbour. Mainly shingle with some limited sandy areas. Port Isaac beach has been made famous by the popular television series Doc Martin where it is known as Port Wenn beach. It is nice for days out with dogs in Cornwall but for swimming and bathing the sandy beach at nearby Port Gaverne is better. Nr Padstow and Newquay Cornwall

Porthcothan Bay is situated between Padstow and Newquay Cornwall and is a sandy beach which is north west-facing. The nearest village is St Merryn which is a ten minute drive away. The beach is backed by grass dunes on which people enjoy setting up camp for the day and sunbathing. Surfers enjoy Porthcothan. Porthcothan Bay is lifeguarded in the summer months from late May until Sept. There is paid for parking, a small shop and toilets (unsure of seasonal and daily opening times). Porthcothan is a dog friendly beach in Cornwall all year, there is no seasonal dog ban.

Bude Cornwall

Sandymouth Beach is a great beach at the North end of Bude . It is a National Trust beach with a beautiful cafe and toilets which are open in the summer months. There is a National Trust car park. The descent down the path can be difficult as the path gives way to a pebble ridge that descends to the sandy beach. When at the sand it stretches for just over a mile. The beach is watched over by beautifully high towering cliffs and a waterfall that children love to play in. There are also rock pools to explore. Sandymouth is popular with surfers and the surf here is said to be great but when it gets above 3 feet it is best left to those with experience. Sandymouth Beach is lifeguarded from mid May until late September. The beach is only accessible at mid to low tide and so always seek advice before straying too far from the beach entrance. Sandymouth Beach Bude is a dog friendly beach in Cornwall all year and does not have any seasonal dog restrictions. A real gem in the area!

Bude Cornwall

Summerleaze beach Bude is within walking distance of the centre of Bude and is a sandy beach which has an open air sea pool. The pool is a fun place to swim if you do not fancy the sea, which is handy as Bude often gets powerful seas with high waves. Bude beaches are popular with surfers which can make the pool a calm alternative. Good facilities nearby including a cafe. There is a beach wheelchair available for hire from Summerleaze Beach Office. Dog friendly beach all year although dogs must be kept on a lead between 10am and 6pm from 21st May - 30th September. Towan Beach is a good family sandy beach as there are restrictions on surfing in the summer and it is sheltered and has a seawater pool. Popular with surfers when restrictions don't apply. Set in Newquay centre it can get busy. Towan Beach is backed by a sea wall and the tide covers beach at high tide. There is a grassy area overlooking the beach for those who prefer grass to sand. The beach is found in front of the Sealife Centre and to the side of Towan Island and suspension bridge. Good facilities nearby. Lifeguarded over the summer season and at Easter. Close to Tintagel Cornwall Trebarwith is set in a deep valley with west facing beach and views of Gull Rocks. Please note you have to cross rocks to get to the beach and the beach is completely covered at high tide. Overlooking the beach is the Port William Inn a completely dog friendly pub and definitely worth a visit. The beach has parking, toilets and is a dog friendly beach all year. Lifeguarded over the summer season.

Treyarnon Bay lies between Padstow and Newquay and is a sandy cove which is popular with families and surfers. The beach is edged by cliffs and sand dunes and has rock pools to investigate. There is access to the Coast Path for those who fancy a walk or to simply take in the stunning views. The beach can get busy in the summer months and the car park can get full. There is a beach shop and toilets (unsure of seasonal and daily opening times). Slightly out of Newquay Cornwall (about a fifteen minute drive or hard walk of an hour) Watergate Bay Cornwall is a two mile stretch of golden Cornish sands. Popular with surfers, kite surfers, beachgoers and dogs as it is a dog friendly beach all year. Facilities are good with a couple of cafes, restaurants, beach shop, toilets and places to hire surf and beach equipment.
