What's on in Cornwall this weekend for lovers of folk music?? Cornwall folk Festival is being held in Wadebridge Town Hall and other venues around the town. The 44 year old Cornwall Folk Festival brings a magical sparkle to Cornish stage and streets this August bank holiday weekend. Headline Ralph McTell weaves significant and poignant stories. 1974's 'Streets of London' earned an Ivor Novello, and in 2002 he won the BBC2 Lifetime Achievement Awards. World class guitarist Martin Simpson's shows are intense, spellbinding and deeply moving. He's won BBC2 Musician of the Year twice, and is an unpredictable musician of great subtlety. Former clown, one-man soul poet and tap-dancer, with guitar, trombone and percussion, meet modern troubadour Rory McLeod! His band The Familiar Strangers straddles folk, world, jazz and Latin. Ange Hardy won Fatea Magazine's Album of 2014 and Female Vocalist 2013. She plays guitars, bodhran and harp, and makes innovative use of live vocal loops. Mike Harding calls her new folk's 'bright star'. France's Claude Bourbon internationally famous nimble fingers force Spanish, Middle Eastern and Russian styles into unchartered territories. Influences range from Bach to Deep Purple, Paco De Lucia to Stevie Nicks. Celtic cousins from Brittany join dancers and regional musicians in the streets, cafes and bars, and young musicians are showcased in the annual competition. One of the great family friendly events in Cornwall this weekend.

Family fund raising event in Part Isaac Cornwall.

Extract from the Big Swim Website - The Big Swim is back and 2015 is going to be a great one! Set yourself the challenge of the summer whilst spending the weekend in the gorgeous coastal villages of Port Isaac and Port Gaverne. Choose from a range of challenging races or simply come back to beat your last years personal best! If you are new to The Big Swim, welcome!

The 2013 Big Swim raised over £15,000 for charities. Every year you raise more and more! Well done and thank you to everyone who took part and contributed to this success.

The Big Swim was initiated by Sarah Coates, who wanted to inspire locals and visitors to utilise this amazing natural resource on their doorstep and take to the open water to push boundaries, create a fun personal challenge whilst raising money for local charities that support our fragile coastal communities.

The event is a two-day affair and we encourage you to come down and make a weekend of it. Last year hundreds of you swam, then relaxed and listened to the music line up, which was fantastic, and the party continued on The Platt in Port Isaac (the home of Doc Martin!) until midnight.

Our two local campsites are ready to welcome you once again. We had some lovely feedback from swimmers last year who stayed at the campsites. Read more about Port Isaac Cornwall

Every year villagers & visitors look forward to the Porthleven RNLI Lifeboat Day fund raising event. A family day out with no entrance fee. There are local trade stalls, food and drink. Highlight of the day will be the arrival of the two Penlee lifeboats, the all-weather Severn Class Ivan Ellen and the Atlantic 75 Class Paul Alexander, and operational commitments permitting, a demonstration by a helicopter from 771 Naval Air Squadron at RNAS Culdrose. This will be a poignant moment since 771 NAS is being disbanded this year with its search and rescue duties being taken over by Bristow Helicopters working out of Newquay airport. Other attractions on the day focus on activities for the whole family to enjoy. There's Punch and Judy, bouncy castles, games, toys and a fun ride for the children and lots of things for the grown ups to see and do too. There will be market stalls to browse, a water polo match in the outer harbour, a demonstration by Porthleven Gig Club, music from Porthleven Town Band and much more. One of the things to do in Cornwall this week for those who love theatre and food! Porthtowan Players present two one act plays - and a cream tea! 1. Properly Processed. Ill and disorientated, Carol, an officious Chief Planning Officer, walks into Simkins' office to elicit help. Unhappy at having to complete countless forms, she offers them a management review and devises a system which suits the office to a T. But this is not a normal office...

2. Have A Nice Day. Carole, a not-too-bright breakfast TV presenter is facing the axe - a fact she has learned from the daily tabloids. She gets little sympathy from the co-workers she has treated badly; and then her agent arrives and confirms that she will soon be jobless. And he doesn't seem to want - or be able - to come up with much of an alternative. So Carole rebels! Tickets £7, £5 concessions - includes a Cream Tea, available on the door or ring 01209 211039 to book. Licensed Bar. This live theatre event promises to be an evening of great entertainment in the lovely Cornish seaside village of Porthtowan
