Indoor and outdoor, weather permitting, farmers market event in Cornwall. Facing the Atlantic and a mile from Lands End, Sennen Cornwall is the most westerly village in the country. Centuries ago, the Cove was at the centre of the pilchard fishing industry and also had a notorious reputation as a base for smugglers and wreckers. Today Sennen is known for its RNLI lifeboat station, for the glorious west facing sweep of Whitesand Bay, for its rugged scenery and great surf. Very much at the heart of the local community, Sennen Market opened in May 2009 to provide an outlet for the areas wide range of local produce. The market was voted as Cornwalls Farmers Market of the year 2010. Hugely popular with tourists in high season, the market is also a focus for the local community as a meeting place for residents of all ages. With all sorts of delicious things to eat, the stallholders at Sennen Farmers Market offer a variety of local food, plants and herbs, cards, jewellery, wood carving and other Cornish crafts. Every Tuesday 9am to 12 noon

Big firework display in Cornwall - This year firefighters at Falmouth Community Fire Station will set off £7500 worth of fireworks to music and are inviting any local groups or charities who would like a share of the profits from the night to get in touch. We are really keen for members of the public to attend organised events, as fireworks can be very dangerous and no matter how careful you are, accidents can still happen. By coming along to an organised display you get to see great fireworks and everyone has a great time in a safe, controlled environment. The firework display will take place at Falmouth Cricket Club. Gates will open at 6pm, with the fireworks being set off an hour later. The entry fee is £4 for adults and £2 for children aged 12 and under, who must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

What's on in Cornwall this month for film lovers. The Cornwall Film Festival is a great and varied 2 month long film event in Cornwall. Cornwall Film Festival is Cornwall's only major film festival event and attracts audiences from across Cornwall as well as from the rest of the UK and abroad. Held in Falmouth for many years in 2011 the festival moved to a large cinema in Newquay. The event has now expanded to cinema venues throughout the county in a celebration of cinema. Throughout November CFF will run a curated programme of film events, highlighting excellence in film making screening International festival winners and the best of British. CFF will focus on building and developing diverse audiences through a year round programme of screening, events and pop-up screenings. CFF will expand and develop regional, rural community cinemas through the C-Fylm film clubs programme. Cornwall Film Festival is a charity governed by a board of trustees while a steering group provides additional support. Events include a screeing of Casablanca on Sunday 1st November 2015 at the Regal cinema in Redruth, Blue Veslvet on Monday 9th and Brief Encounter on Thursday 12th all as part of the Loved Up season. TALES OF LOCAL WORLD WAR ONE HEROES UNCOVERED IN PENPONDS - A fascinating free event at Penponds Church on Friday 6 November will reveal previously unknown stories of World War One heroes in the area. Local historians Craig-Carey Clinch and Carol Richards will be talking about their research into names on the World War One memorial at the church, just ahead of Remembrance Sunday this year. The memorial is unusual as it is in the church porch and has the names of men attending Camborne School of Mines as well as those living in the village and surrounding areas at the time. One of the School of Mines students was Cecil Calvert who was recommended for a medal for his incredible bravery in digging out a trapped man from a tunnel with his bare hands to avoid being heard by the German troops above. Tragically he died in another fearless rescue attempt before receiving the award.

The evening will start at 7pm. Refreshments will be on offer and afterwards there will be a chance to chat further with everyone involved. There will also be a chance to examine World War One artefacts relating to local heroes, collected as part of 'Heart of Conflict' - activities and research into the history of World War One in the Camborne/Redruth area

November & December 2015

A series of very special Christmas events in Cornwall. Light Up a Life is one of Cornwall Hospices best loved and most meaningful community events during which people can come together to cherish and celebrate the memories of those we have lost. Each service features carols, readings and prayers. Lights on a Tree of Life will symbolise the lives of the special people we are remembering. Light Up a Life gives people the opportunity to remember their loved ones by placing their names in one of our remembrance books (you can do this online) and attending one of our dedication services.

Services this year will be at St Julias Hospice, Truro Cathedral, St Mary's Parish Curch Launceston, Chapel Street Methodist Church Penzance and Mount Edgcumbe Hospice. At the end of each service the lights on the tree will be lit as a symbol of remembrance.

Light Up a Life is open to anyone, there does not have to have been a connection to either of the hospices, it is an opportunity for people in Cornwall to come together in the spirit of remembrance at Christmas time.
