Indoor and outdoor, weather permitting, farmers market event in Cornwall. Facing the Atlantic and a mile from Lands End, Sennen Cornwall is the most westerly village in the country. Centuries ago, the Cove was at the centre of the pilchard fishing industry and also had a notorious reputation as a base for smugglers and wreckers. Today Sennen is known for its RNLI lifeboat station, for the glorious west facing sweep of Whitesand Bay, for its rugged scenery and great surf. Very much at the heart of the local community, Sennen Market opened in May 2009 to provide an outlet for the areas wide range of local produce. The market was voted as Cornwalls Farmers Market of the year 2010. Hugely popular with tourists in high season, the market is also a focus for the local community as a meeting place for residents of all ages. With all sorts of delicious things to eat, the stallholders at Sennen Farmers Market offer a variety of local food, plants and herbs, cards, jewellery, wood carving and other Cornish crafts. Every Tuesday 9am to 12 noon. One of the great local market events in Cornwall.

With only 6 days until they leave, entrants to this year's Vegas or Bust Charity Banger Rally will display their cars in St Austell town centre on Saturday 1st October. 10-20 cars will provide a static display in Fore Street & White River Place. The cars are part of the 100 plus Banger fleet that will be travelling to Vegas in Spain later in the week as part of St Austell Round Table's annual Banger Rally Challenge raising money for six local charities. Over the last five years the Rally has visited many European cities such as Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Rome, Pula Croatia and last year’s final destination Salo in the Italian lakes. So far it has raised an unbelievable £500,000 for local and national charities during its short history. The six Charities that benefit from this infamous community event are: Children's Hospice South West, Cornwall Hospice Care, Cornwall Air Ambulance, Merlin MS Centre, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Turn to Starboard. This year the rally is off to Spain under the title 'Vegas or Bust'. Currently 100 cars have entered with over 400 people taking part. Each car is to have a value of no more than £500-£600, teams decorate their vehicles and travel in fancy dress. Local businesses sponsor prizes for best car, fancy dress etc. and there are daily challenge trials for the competitors to win more donations from the sponsors along the way. The main sponsors of this year's Rally are Driveline GB Ltd a St Austell based Van & Truck Rental Company. Other sponsors include South Westerly, Leap, Once I've Gone, Boscundle Manor, Mortgage Works, GoJute International, St Austell Printing Company, Parklands Toyota, The Cornwall Hotel & Spa and the Utility Warehouse. All the Ralliers ask is that you take along some pennies to either event for their collections and support this fantastic event and help them reach this year's goal.

Surfers Against Sewage, in association with The Crown Estate and the Greggs Foundation launch the 7th annual Autumn Beach Clean Series. As summer draws to a close Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) are calling for 200 people, community groups, schools and local businesses throughout Cornwall to run their own beach cleans during the week of the 24th - 30th of October. Together these inspiring Autumn Beach Clean Series 'Lead Volunteers' provide their coastal community with the opportunity to protect their favourite beaches and to join a growing national movement calling for dramatic action to halt the marine litter crisis. Set to be the biggest Autumn Beach Clean Series ever, SAS expect over 4500 volunteers to join their local Lead Volunteer to sweep over 15 TONNES of marine litter from 200 beaches across the UK coastline from the 24th October - 6th November 2016.

Over 100 of last year's Lead Volunteers have already registered their Autumn Beach Cleans, so you'll be joining a highly experienced volunteer army! Many are dog friendly but check first. To register your beach clean, or if you'd just like a little more information on what it takes to be a Lead Volunteers drop SAS a line at beachcleans@sas.org.uk or call 01872 553001.
